The Glassy Potts Model

چکیده
We introduce a Potts model with quenched, frustrated disorder, that enjoys of a gauge symmetry that forbids spontaneous magnetization, and allows the glassy phase to extend from Tc down to T = 0. We study numerical the 4 dimensional model with q = 4 states. We show the existence of a glassy phase, and we characterize it by studying the probability distributions of an order parameter, the binder cumulant and the divergence of the overlap susceptibility. We show that the dynamical behavior of the system is characterized by aging.

Glassy states in lattice models with many coexisting crystalline phases
We study the emergence of glassy states after a sudden cooling in lattice models with short range interactions and without any a priori quenched disorder. The glassy state emerges whenever the equilibrium model possesses a sufficient number of coexisting crystalline phases at low temperatures, provided the thermodynamic limit be taken before the infinite time limit. This result is obtained thro...
متن کاملPrecursor phenomena in frustrated systems.
To understand the origin of the dynamical transition, between high-temperature exponential relaxation and low-temperature nonexponential relaxation, that occurs well above the static transition in glassy systems, a frustrated spin model, with and without disorder, is considered. The model has two phase transitions, the lower being a standard spin glass transition (in the presence of disorder) o...
متن کاملOn the Static and Dynamical Transition in the Mean-Field Potts glass
We study the static as well as the glassy or dynamical transition in the meanfield p-state Potts glass. By numerical solution of the saddle point equations we investigate the static and the dynamical transition for all values of p in the nonperturbative regime p > 4. The static and dynamical Edwards-Anderson parameter increase with p logarithmically. This makes the glassy transition temperature...
متن کاملLattice Models of Disorder with Order
This paper describes the use of simple lattice models for studying the properties of structurally disordered systems like glasses and granulates. The models considered have crystalline states as ground states, finite connectivity, and are not subject to constrained evolution rules. After a short review of some of these models, the paper discusses how two particularly simple kinds of models, the...
